Chapter 5


A dispute had arisen in the Augustinian order calling for settlement by the pope. Two brothers were sent to the holy city to represent the chapter at Erfurt. One of them was Martin Luther and the year was 1501.

The trip to Rome is very revealing of his character – what he saw, what he ignored.
